A HISTORY

Nicolini's opened its doors in September 1997. Its founder, Raffaele Abbate, began his passion for food as a young teenage boy involved in the making and selling of pasta in his hometown of Napoli. Since then Raffaele has either managed/opened or owned several restaurants, taking him around the world. Raffaele’s journey in Wellington began in 1987 when he joined the team at La Spaghettata, catapulting the piano bar/restaurant to popularity among the locals and beyond. With that achieved, Raffaele’s next projects were his own, the fine dining “Bellissimo” and Wellington’s first full Italian delicatessen “Aroma Cafe’, both of which enjoyed culinary success. Move forward a few years and restaurants, and we have the Nicolini's trattoria style restaurant of today. Our mission at Nicolini's is to bring age old Napolitan recipes to the local community.  We are proud to use as much of the fresh local produce as possible, while many specialty ingredients are imported to maintain the authenticity of our recipes which have been passed from generation to generation. As with our food, our wine selection also embodies an input of passion as well as experience. Covering many regions throughout Italy, we also pay our respects to local wines from around New Zealand while having a taste of Australian wines as well. Nicolini’s menu has dishes which are vegetarian, vegan, dairy free and gluten free.
